This recipe for Easy Baked Cinnamon Apples is so simple to make in a skillet. They are warm and buttery with a dusting of cinnamon- a great balance of tartness and sweetness. It is a wonderful comfort food and the perfect side dish.
5 large apples, peeled and sliced(We use Granny Smith)
½stickunsalted butter(1/4 cup)
2teaspoonscornstarch
¾cupcold water
½cupbrown sugar (we use light brown)
¾teaspoonground cinnamon
pinch of salt
Instructions
Melt butter over medium heat in a large skillet or saucepan.
Dissolve the cornstarch in the 3/4 cup cold water and set aside.
Slice the apples to about 1/2 inch thickness. (I think it is easiest to use an apple corer to slice the apple into wedges--I then slice those wedges into thirds). You want the apples to be about the same thickness so that they will all become tender at the same time.
Add the apple slices into the pan of melted butter and stir constantly over medium heat until they are tender. This takes about 6-7 minutes.
Stir in the cornstarch/water mixture as well as the cinnamon, brown sugar and salt. Continue cooking or two minutes more or until the apples have reached desired tenderness and sauce has thickened. Stir occasionally.
Serve warm, and store leftovers in the refrigerator.
